Bird Book II
Dec 2022, five books, 3”x 30” unfolded, Inkjet on matte paper. Personal photos, AI.
Throughout my exploration into birds as a repeating symbol in my daily life, I began to notice them more. Bird bodies gruesomely dotted the city and the paths that I frequent. I documented the limp animals as a way to commemorate their life. These images were then fed through an AI algorithm ten times which distorted and transformed the broken bodies into completely different results.
AI represents the collective consciousness and transforms a mournful image into bright recognizable symbols that populate the internet. This process obscures the original shape of the bird and represents the way that we understand shape and intrinsic meaning.
The handmade paper covers bring a stark contrast to the digital imagery inside while using weaving as a metaphor: meaning is woven with symbol.
Below is the digital file of all images included in the books.
