Anthotype Research
May 2023, Each piece is 3’x 4’, Cotton fabric, acetate with screen printed drawing, beets, spirulina
An anthotype is a solar print using light-sensitive plant matter. By mixing a pigmented ground plant with alcohol, the sun will naturally bleach the exposed parts of the surface.
This piece uses a sketch that was based of the form of a bird combined with an angel. The shape while initially vague, becomes almost unrecognizable through the process of the anthotype.
This project arose as I realized that much of my artistic practice arises from a curiosity to research a specific process or material. The project is much more than the final dyptic, I see the research process as just as necessary to present.
